Hotsticks win the Knock-Out Final against Qormi Daikin Hockey Club

Hotsticks won the Knock-Out Final Trophy with a fully deserved victory over Qormi Daikin in a fiercely fought confrontation at Kordin this weekend.

Goals from Silas Plaehn and Alex Bolton brought Hotsticks level on two occasions, with Julian Zahra’s dramatic finish just minutes from full-time ensured Hotsticks lifted the trophy.

Despite some glimpses of quality from the opposition, the grit and determination of Hotsticks throughout the match made for a truly captivating spectacle.

Plaehn’s equaliser from a short corner in the third quarter meant it was all to play for with the teams going into the final quarter tied at 1-1.

It looked as though the opposition had won it when they controversially scored with 10 minutes left to play, however, Hotsticks’ heroics would see them have the last laugh.

Plaehn’s clever pass found Bolton free in the area, who made no mistake with a drag flick into the bottom corner and level the game at 2-2.

It looked as though the match would end in a shoot-out, but Alessandro Amore’s perfectly-weighted pass found Zahra, who swept his shot low into the far corner in the final minutes to seal the win for Hotsticks.
